My work is deeply personal and reflective, but at the same time responds to current events and the daily activities around me. I gather observations and imagery from family life and my imagination. All of my work has a story to tell. It is the feeling of home and the comfort that comes from repetition and continuity that inspires me. There is a connection between process and introspection and for me the act of creating is a sanctuary for contemplation. Since graduating from Art School my art has been a journey of self-discovery and self-expression. Sharing ideas by letting work go to different collectors keeps me moving forward and grounded. The cast bronze pieces are a combination of memories and imagination. As a child I loved animals. I had the meanest cat in the neighbourhood but I adored her. My beloved hamsters pleased me but the bird next door puzzled me. My Auntie Jean would let the bird out of its cage when we would have afternoon tea together. Why didn't that bird ever fly out the front door? We were constantly opening our front door for her royal highness the cat to saunter in and out. Yet this bird preferred to stay in the house and spend tea time with us. I have shared this joy with my children by creating a home for several cats, a couple hamsters, numerous rabbits and lastly a dog.
